About Us
Propeller Centre is more than a repair shop. It is a family legacy in aviation. We take pride in our history, our people, and the uncompromising quality of our work. Here is our story.
Who We Are

Theuns du Toit Sr.
Founder (1941-2008)
Propeller Centre was founded by Theuns du Toit (Senior), a skilled aircraft engineer, and his wife Brenda in 1977. Their vision was to provide specialised propeller overhaul services to South Africa's aviation community. Starting from a single hangar at Wonderboom Airport, the company earned a reputation for excellent workmanship and honest service.
Today, Propeller Centre remains family-owned and is led by the founders' sons, Theuns (Junior) and Dolf du Toit, who themselves grew up in the business. This continuity ensures that our original values carry on into the modern era. We combine old-school expertise with new-generation innovation.
What We Do
For over 45 years, Propeller Centre has focused exclusively on propellers and their associated systems. By specialising, we have developed unmatched expertise in this niche field. Our technicians are passionate about aviation and pay meticulous attention to detail on every job.
We operate an SACAA-approved workshop with state-of-the-art equipment for balancing, precision machining, finishing, and NDT inspection. Whether it is a lightweight composite prop for a bush plane or a large three-blade prop for a turboprop, we have the capability to service it. Our philosophy is simple: do it right the first time. We never cut corners on safety.
"Your propeller is our priority."
Our promise to every client
Company Milestones
Propeller Centre is established. Theuns Sr. and Brenda du Toit open the doors at Wonderboom Airport, laying the foundation as South Africa's first dedicated propeller overhaul shop. Early on, they set high standards for quality that would become the company's hallmark.
Growing reputation through word of mouth and consistent results across South Africa. Customers include general aviation clubs, charter operators, and neighbouring countries. The shop expands its capabilities to handle more prop models and adds Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) services to enhance inspection precision.
Authorised by major OEMs. Strong servicing of Hartzell and McCauley propellers. Early work with emerging composite prop technologies. Staff undergo specialised training, positioning the company to service a broader range of propeller types.
Approved Service Centre for MT-Propeller. As composite propellers gain popularity, certification as an MT-Propeller authorised service facility brings cutting-edge composite repair techniques into the shop and expands international reach.
Leadership transition. Company founder Theuns du Toit Sr. passes away (1941 to 2008). The sons officially take the helm, having apprenticed under their father for many years. They continue to run Propeller Centre with the same hands-on approach, modernising the workshop while upholding the family's commitment to quality.
International expansion. Overhaul projects for clients in Europe, the Middle East, and other parts of Africa. Frequent field support for operators. Investment in advanced equipment such as computerised balancers and enhanced shot-peening machines to meet evolving maintenance standards.
40th Anniversary. Recognition from industry partners and clients for being the longest-serving propeller shop in South Africa. Many customers have been with us for decades. Commitment renewed for the next generation of aviation, including support for new technologies and training young technicians.
Continued excellence. A busy workshop handling a diverse array of propellers, from vintage two-blade props to modern five-blade composites. Go-to propeller specialists for private pilots, commercial operators, and maintenance organisations throughout Africa and beyond. Exploring new services such as propeller governor overhauls and propeller sales to stay responsive to client needs.
